Youth Soccer Parents' Attitudes and Perceptions About Concussions

PurposeParents are important figures in properly managing youth sport concussions. Although media attention has predominantly centered on concussions contact/collision sports, evidence suggests that the concussion rate soccer is comparable to those found sports. Given high of soccer, this study aimed examine parents athletes' attitudes and perceptions about associated factors.MethodsA cross-sectional was conducted by surveying athletes from five largest organized programs across U.S. The researchers developed a questionnaire after an extensive literature review modifying previously used instruments.ResultsOverall, 419 completed survey. vast majority (85%) agreed serious injury, but only 27.9% believed their child could suffer during next season. Parents were most concerned permanent brain damage when suffers concussion. (4.37 ± .89) perceived reporting as injury prevention strategy.
